Ace Your Coffee Date
Meeting for a casual cup of coffee is a great way to suss out compatibilities … our dos and don'ts will help make sure the outing is a success.

All of us go on coffee dates these days. They're quick, relatively cheap, and casual. But as relaxed as they may seem, they have the power to jump-start a terrific relationship ... or leave you both feeling like the dregs at the bottom of a mug of joe. The truth is, in order to go from latté to love, you've got to ace that let's-meet-for-coffee moment. With that in mind, we culled advice from experts to help you brew a positive first impression.

Do appear laid-back. It's just coffee! That's the appearance you want to give. No pressure, relaxed, ready to meet and chat. In other words, if you dress the part of "fun date," you'll have a better chance of having just that. If you're coming straight from the office, consider wearing a less conservative outfit that day or taking off your jacket and unbuttoning your shirt a little so you don't come across as all business, says Nancy Slotnick, founder of Cablight.com and author of Turn Your Cablight On: Get Your Dream Man in 6 Months or Less. "You shouldn't arrive looking like you're about to have a job interview," she points out. "Nothing about this should feel transactional." It's about getting to know one another.

Do stake out the joint. If you're the person who suggests the meeting place, make sure it's someplace that will have adequate seating, a comfortable environment and won't be too crowded. "Make a list of the independent, fun, funky coffee houses in town in addition to the standard chain-type places and check a couple out ahead of time if you can," suggests David Wygant, author of Always Talk to Strangers. "Some of these will also have things like poetry readings or music so you have a chance to broaden the date if you want."

Don't be late! "Some people think it's OK to be late if they call, but it's just not OK because you've still made the other person wait," says Slotnick. "Maybe you can do that with your best friends because they've known you for a long time, but this is about first impressions and you only get one chance." In fact, be five minutes early if you can and grab a table, preferably one with a banquette or soft chairs, so you'll have one less thing to worry about once your date does arrive.

Do maintain eye contact from the get-go. Coffee houses can be busy with lots of distractions. The trick is not to get overwhelmed, because those first five minutes are important. "Put your focus on your date even if there are 17,000 things going on around you," says Slotnick. "Keep in mind the goal, which is connecting with this person and maintaining eye contact, even while waiting in line together." If you don't, your date may have formed an opinion of you before you even get your drinks.

Do order what you want. Are you one of those people with a rather complex drink order? Are you afraid to request your usual venti triple-shot no-whip light-water extra-foam vanilla latte in front of your date? Don't worry. It's how you order, not what you order, that matters. "The important thing here is how you interact with the barista," says Slotnick. "If you're really demanding about it like, 'I want my half-caff, no whip, blah, blah, blah done like this,' you might look high-maintenance or rude." A better bet? Make a joke about it like "Are you ready for this?" and then thank or even tip the barista for getting it right.

Don't make an issue over who pays. Though the general dating rule is "the person who asks, pays," with the coffee date most experts feel the man should foot the bill no matter what. "I love a coffee date because it's affordable," says Wygant. "Too many chew-and-swallow dates leave a hole in the pocket but with coffee, there is no reason for the man not to step up and pay. It just looks good." Wygant suggests avoiding the whole money shuffle by having your date sit at the table, asking what she wants and then getting it for her. Another slick move? Have a pre-paid coffeehouse card—one swipe and payment has become a non-issue.

Don't freak if you can't find a table. If you do have to wait for someplace to sit, don't let it throw you. "It's not like 'Oh my God, we don't have a table so we can't have a date,'" says Slotnick. "You can have a date standing up and be relaxed about it!" Another option is getting "to go" cups and going for a walk or seeing if you can find a bench outdoors somewhere, weather permitting, of course. "It's about not letting your anxiety get in the way of getting to know the person you're with," she says. Being calm and flexible will make a good impression, without a doubt.

Don't arrive famished. Don't assume that the date is going to turn into dinner, so don't turn up absolutely starving. If things are going well, ask if your date would like to share a treat. "You can extend the coffee date with a snack if you like each other," says Wygant. "Just skip the food option up front, but if things are going well in a half-hour or so, offer to share a cookie or a sandwich, which shows you want to keep chatting."

Do suggest another meeting. If, at the end of the date, you know you two are clicking, don't be afraid to book date #2 right then and there. "If you like your date make sure you tell them and secure the next date immediately," suggests Wygant. "Say 'Coffee was great and I'd love to hang out with you on Saturday if you're free' or whatever." In other words, at this point, you probably know if you want to see this person again… so if you do, let it show to make that great coffee date an even better experience!

WASHINGTON - President-elect Barack Obama began his inauguration day by attending a service at St. John's Church near the White House.

He's continuing a tradition followed by many incoming presidents before him, at what's been dubbed the "Church of the Presidents."

Obama and his wife, Michelle, left Blair House across the street from the White House for the short ride to the church Tuesday morning, even as a huge crowd gathered in front of the U.S. Capitol building and across the National Mall to witness his swearing-in at midday.

Before heading to the Capitol, the Obamas will be joining President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, at the White House for coffee.

Historic dayLater Tuesday, Obama will step into history by becoming the United States' first black president, bringing a message of hope to a nation battered by recession, weary of war and hungry for change after eight years of George W. Bush in the White House.

With the national holiday honoring slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. falling on the eve of the inauguration, America's troubled racial history was in the spotlight.

WASHINGTON - Federal health authorities on Saturday urged consumers to avoid eating cookies, cakes, ice cream and other foods that contain peanut butter until authorities can learn more about a deadly outbreak of salmonella contamination.

"We urge consumers to postpone eating any products that may contain peanut butter until additional information becomes available," said Stephen Sundlof, head of the Food and Drug Administration's food safety center.

But most peanut butter sold in jars at supermarkets appears to be safe, Sundlof said.

"As of now, there is no indication that the major national name-brand jars of peanut butter sold in retails stores are linked to the recall," Sundlof told reporters in a conference call.

Officials are focusing on peanut paste, as well as peanut butter, produced at a Blakely, Ga., facility owned by Peanut Corp. of America. Its peanut butter is not sold directly to consumers but distributed to institutions and food companies. But the peanut paste, made from roasted peanuts, is an ingredient in cookies, cakes and other products that people buy in the supermarket.

“This is an excellent illustration of an ingredient-driven outbreak,” said Dr. Robert Tauxe, who oversees foodborne illness investigations for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

So far, more than 470 people have gotten sick in 43 states, and at least 90 had to be hospitalized. At least six deaths are being blamed on the outbreak. Salmonella is a bacteria and the most common source of food poisoning in the U.S., causing diarrhea, cramping and fever.

Officials said new illnesses are still being reported in the outbreak investigation.

The Kellogg Co., which listed Peanut Corp. as one of its suppliers, has recalled 16 products. They include Austin and Keebler branded Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers, and some snack-size packs of Famous Amos Peanut Butter Cookies and Keebler Soft Batch Homestyle Peanut Butter Cookies. Health officials said consumers who have bought any of those products should throw them away.

Peanut Corp. has recalled all peanut butter produced at the Georgia plant since Aug. 8 and all peanut paste produced since Sept. 26. The plant passed its last state inspection this summer, but recent tests have found salmonella.

Health officials are focusing on 30 companies out of a total of 85 that received peanut products from the Georgia plant. Sundlof said Peanut Corp. is a relatively small supplier on the national scene.

The Midwest supermaket chain Hy-Vee Inc. of West Des Moines, Iowa, said Saturday it was voluntarily recalling products made in its bakery departments with peanut butter because they had the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. The recall covered seven states: Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota.

The outbreak has triggered a congressional inquiry and renewed calls for reform of food safety laws. For example, the FDA lacks authority to order a recall, and instead must ask companies to voluntarily withdraw products.

“Given the numerous food-borne illness outbreaks over the past several years, it is becoming painfully clear that the current regulatory structure is antiquated and ill-equipped to handle these extensive investigations,” said Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., who chairs a panel that oversees the FDA budget.

Seattle-area lawyer William Marler, who specializes in food safety cases, said the government shouldn’t wait for the results of more tests to request recalls.

“At least 30 companies purchased peanut butter or paste from a facility with a documented link to a nationwide salmonella outbreak,” said Marler. “The FDA has the authority actually, the mandate to request recalls if the public health is threatened. Instead, the FDA has asked the companies to test their products and consider voluntary recalls. It is just not enough.”

Health officials in Minnesota and Virginia have linked two deaths each to the outbreak and Idaho has reported one. Four of those five were elderly people, and all had salmonella when they died, although their exact causes of death have not been determined. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the salmonella may have contributed.

An elderly North Carolina man died in November from the same strain of salmonella that’s causing the outbreak, officials in that state said Friday.

The CDC said the bacteria behind the outbreak — typhimurium — is common and not an unusually dangerous strain but that the elderly or those with weakened immune systems are more at risk.

The length of a man's ring finger may predict his success as a financial trader. Researchers at the University of Cambridge in England report that men with longer ring fingers, compared to their index fingers, tended to be more successful in the frantic high-frequency trading in the London financial district.

Indeed, the impact of biology on success was about equal to years of experience at the job, the team led by physiologist John M. Coates reports in Monday's edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The same ring-to-index finger ratio has previously been associated with success in competitive sports such as soccer and basketball, the researchers noted.

The length ratio between those two fingers is determined during the development of the fetus and the relatively longer ring finger indicates greater exposure to the male hormone androgen, the researchers noted.

Previous studies have found that such exposure can lead to increased confidence, risk preferences, search persistence, heightened vigilance and quickened reaction times.

In a separate study last year, Coates and colleagues reported that the hormone that drives male aggression and sexual interest also seemed able to boost short term success at finance.

They studied male financial traders in London, taking saliva samples in the morning and evening. They found that those with higher levels of testosterone in the morning were more likely to make an unusually big profit that day. Testosterone, best known as the male sex hormone, affects aggression, confidence and risk-taking.

In the new study, the researchers measured the right hands of 44 male stock traders who were engaged in a type of trade that involved rapid decision-making and quick physical reactions.

Over 20 months those with longer ring fingers compared to their index fingers made 11 times more money than those with the shortest ring fingers. Over the same time the most experienced traders made about 9 times more than the least experienced ones.

Looking only at experienced traders, the long-ring-finger folks earned 5 times more than those with short ring fingers.

While the finger ratio, showing fetal exposure to male hormones, appears to signal likely success in high-actively trading that calls for risk-taking and quick reactions, it may not indicate people who would do well at other sorts of financial activities, the researchers said.

Some traders require additional skills on dealing with clients and sales workers.

And the advantage may even reverse for some, Coates team said, such as traders taking a more analytical and long-term approach to the markets.

One study, which looked at average finger ratios in university departments found that faculty from math, science and engineering exhibited longer index finger ratio, rather than ring finger, they noted.

Spotlight: Bride Wars star Anne Hathaway

Bride Wars director Gary Winick gives Hollywood Life's Stephen Farber the inside scoop on working with the fabulous Anne Hathaway.

Anne Hathaway seemed to be an appealing light comedienne when she made her breakthrough movie, The Princess Diaries, and she held her own with Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada. But critics and audiences discovered a new depth to her talent in Jonathan Demme's Rachel Getting Married this fall; she portrayed a recovering drug addict with searing dramatic power. If she snares an Oscar nomination this winter, she'll be in the big leagues. But before that happens, we get to see her back in the kind of frothy comedy that first made her reputation. In Bride Wars, she co-stars with Kate Hudson as best friends who turn into bitter enemies when their weddings are inadvertently scheduled on the same day.

"It was great that I got to work with Annie at this moment," says the director of Bride Wars, Gary Winick, who acknowledges that if Oscar comes calling, she might no longer deign to appear in a bubblegum comedy. "We were just doing the looping," Winick adds, "and I offered her two more movies. Her range is incredible."

Winick started out as a producer and director of edgy independent movies like the Sundance directing-prize winner Tadpole. More recently, however, his flair for comedy has found him tagged to do mainstream Hollywood chick flicks like 13 Going on 30 with Jennifer Garner, the children's fantasy Charlotte's Web, and now Bride Wars. He sees some continuity among the films, pointing out that he responds strongly to stories about friendship. "In Charlotte's Web it was a spider and a pig," Winick jokes, "and here it's two girls."

Hathaway was constantly working to give the movie deeper shadings. "Annie always wanted more," the director says. "She wanted to know why the girls were best friends, and why they need to have this big fight in order to grow. She was always pushing us to make the character and the relationship richer."

Working on a relatively big-budget picture, Winick admits that he had to field a lot of suggestions from the producers and studio executives as well as the two stars. At times he craved the freedom he had enjoyed in independent films. "Still, the great thing about a big studio film is that people will see it," he comments. "I think Bride Wars will appeal to a lot of women, from ten-year-old girls to married women with kids of their own."

BEIJING (Reuters) – A 107-year-old Chinese woman who was afraid to marry when she was young has decided to look for her first husband and hopes to find a fellow centenarian so they will have something to talk about, a Chinese paper reported.

Wang Guiying is worried she is becoming a burden to her ageing nieces and nephews since breaking her leg when she was 102 and had to stop doing chores like washing her clothes.
"I'm already 107 and I still haven't got married," the Chongqing Commercial Times quoted her saying. "What will happen if I don't hurry up and find a husband?"

Born in southern Guizhou province the child of a salt merchant, Wang grew up watching her uncles and other men scold and beat their wives and often found her aunt crying in the woodshed after an attack, the paper said.

"All the married people around there lived like that. Getting married was too frightening," she said of an era when Chinese women had few rights and low social standing.

Many also had their feet bound in an excruciating process aimed at making them look more dainty and marriageable.

After Wang's father, mother and older sister died, she still shied away from marriage. Instead she moved to the countryside and survived as a farmer until she was 74 years old and no longer strong enough to work in the fields, the report said.

Her nephew in the booming city of Chongqing then took Wang in, but she is worried he and her other nephews and nieces are too old to take care of her now even the youngest is 60.

"My nephews and nieces are getting older and their children are already tied up with their own families and I am becoming more and more of a burden," she said.

Local officials have said they are happy to help Wang search for a 100-year old groom, and suggested her family get in touch with old people's homes to find candidates, the paper said.

CHOKE CANYON, Texas - Birders with binoculars and cameras are flocking to a remote state park in search of a small yellow-chested bird that apparently crossed the U.S. border for the first time from its high-mountain habitat to the south.

At 5 inches with beige and yellow markings, the pine flycatcher doesn't look like much, but its unprecedented migration from Mexico and Guatemala is exciting birders all over the country.

"It's not a thrilling bird visually. It's thrilling because it's a first U.S. record," said Wes Biggs, who flew to Choke Canyon State Park from Orlando, Fla., to catch a glimpse.

The bird, which appears to be alone, was first spotted last month and as recently as Friday. The sightings have been confirmed by photographs and recordings of its chirping. The bird, with a solitary nature, usually stays at high elevations but made its winter home in the low Texas scrubland about 200 miles north of its usual habitat.

For the bird to be added to the official checklists of American birders, it will first have to be accepted by the Texas Bird Records Committee, then the American Birding Association. But expert birders are convinced the bird drawing the masses is a pine flycatcher.

"It's a very unexpected discovery, but this is a bird we don't much know about," said Mark Lockwood, a state parks conservation biologist and secretary of the Texas Bird Records Committee.

The committee will review the photos, written descriptions and recordings, but "there is no dispute it's a pine flycatcher," Lockwood said.

Other types of flycatchers have been seen in South Texas, but the pine flycatcher apparently traveled hundreds of miles to get to the hackberry and mesquite trees near a large reservoir.
The bird seems "very much out of whack," said John Arvin, research coordinator at the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory. "It moved over a lot of hostile-looking territory to get there. Why that happened is anybody's guess."

In the last week, word of the pine flycatcher has been spreading through birder Web sites and message boards.

Steve Matherly, from Houston, showed up in camouflage Thursday night after driving 3 1/2 hours for a glimpse early Friday.

"The dollars (spent to get here) per gram of bird is kind of amazing," he chuckled, as he looked around at dozens of other birders scanning the brush and chatting in hushed tones.

He belongs to a group that puts out e-mail alerts when a rare bird is sighted and came down as soon as he could.

"You never know. I've had my occasions where I've gotten there a day late," said Matherly, who works at a gas pipeline company. "I don't know what I'll see today, but it'll be better than a cubicle."

To get a black syrian? Now you can't find this colour already, unless you import them from USA & that's damn troublesome. You need their Health Cerfiticates, their passport etc... alot of stuff. This things still okay, but the goverment still charge you for the hamster you import, oh gosh...

Tips 1 - * You need a Cinnamon & a Black Eyed Cream *

Cinnamon + Black Eyed cream = Black Eyed cream, cinnamon, cream, black, umbrous golden.

All this colour i mention might appear in your batch.

Cinnamon - has a bright ginger coat with a blue undercolour, ivory belly, brown cheekflashes, red eyes and flesh coloured ears.

Black Eyed Cream - is a self coloured hamster with a sandy cream coat, black eyes and dark grey ears.

To get mink colour? This colour you can't even find them available for sale in singapore also...

Tips 2 - * You need a Black Eyed Cream & a Honey Banded *

Black Eyed Cream + Honey Banded = Cream banded, cream, mink, golden banded, black eyed cream, honey banded, mink banded

Black Eyed Cream - is a self coloured hamster with a sandy cream coat, black eyes and dark grey ears.

Honey Banded - is produced by the combination of Yellow and Cinnamon. The Honey has a rich honey coloured coat with a creamy undercolour, ivory belly, ginger cheekflashes, red eyes and flesh coloured ears.

To get sable colour? A very very dark colour which looks like black but it's not black, really cool. The Sable has a black coat with a cream undercolour, and has cream rings around the eyes, black eyes and dark grey ears.

Tips 3 - * You need a Black Eyed Cream & a Umbrous gene *

Black Eyed Cream + Umbrous gene = sable, black eyed cream , umbrous gene, cream

Black Eyed Cream - is a self coloured hamster with a sandy cream coat, black eyes and dark grey ear.

Umbrous gene - places a grey 'wash' over any colour it is combined with, eg combined with Black Eyed Cream it produces the Sable and combined with Golden it produces the Umbrous Golden or Sooty Golden where the Golden is greyer and ivory areas are changed to grey.

*Ruby Eyed: The Ruby Eyed gene is extremely rare, if not extinct. The Ruby Eyed gene can be combined with any colour to produce a Ruby Eyed variety of that colour. Ruby Eyed hamsters have bright ruby eyes and the coat colour is extremely diluted. For example a Ruby Eyed Golden would have bright ruby eyes and the dark brown coat is diluted to mid/pale brown, the Ruby Eyed Cream has a coat that is diluted to a creamy ivory. The Ruby Eyed varieties are not to be confused with the Red Eyed varieties which do not contain the Ruby Eyed gene but may have 'ruby' red eyes. Colours such as Cinnamon, Red Eyed Cream, etc although having red eyes which are 'ruby' in colour, are not due to the Ruby Eyed gene. One of the reasons that the Ruby Eyed Hamster is extremely rare is that males become sterile as they reach 10 weeks of age. *

The Syrian Hamster is sometimes referred to as the 'Golden Hamster' due to its original wild golden colouring although today there are many different colour and coat mutations. The Syrian Hamster is also sometimes referred to as the Standard or Fancy Hamster and Long Haired Syrian hamsters are sometimes referred to as 'Teddy Bear Hamsters'. In addition the Hairless Syrian Hamster is sometimes referred to as the 'Alien Hamster' and the Black Syrian Hamster is also referred to as the 'Black Bear' or 'European Black Bear' Hamster.

The Syrian Hamster is the most common type of hamster kept as a pet and is approximately 6-7 inches in length with a very short tail. It has hairless feet with four toes on the front feet and five on the back feet. The Syrian Hamster has expandable cheek pouches which it uses to collect and carry food and bedding and it can carry up to half its body weight in grain in its cheek pouches
The Syrian Hamster is a solitary animal and will not usually live with another past 8-10 weeks of age and so it is important that they are housed separately as serious fighting, even death can occur if more than one are kept in the same cage. The Syrian Hamster is nocturnal, usually waking during the evening.

BAD DAY~~~

had stomachache after i drank Starbucks COFFEE!

Anyway actually i wanna post everyday but lazy ;D

During school time, i gave Ahmad 2 hamster - 1 grey [ urine queen ] & 1 pearl white [ shitting king ]. Ha ha! I brought my Long Hair black eyed cream Syrian to school. He's really adorable, everyone loves it. School ends, stay back in class to play with the hamster until 3pm and off i go to cold storage to buy the ingredients that i want to cook for my lunch :)

Whoa whoa whoa... I became a chef for the day (;

I bought : Japanese Crispy Chicken, New England Clam Chowder & Frozen Large Escargots from the Cold Storage @ North Point.

Use a toothpick to pull the meat out of the snail shell. And there I go, I have my snail to eat. YUMMY! The meat is very chewy & sweet and is better then any other shell's meat. Try it someday (;

Whoa, today i actually woke up on 9.45am cause of some interview later on.
Normally i would just sleep until 11am or 12pm. Miracle!
Any way, i went to brush my teeth *that's a must do*.

I'll be using Japan's charcoal mask for the day!

My face is full of black cream, oh my gosh.
Looks like some mask man, LOL.

After 15~20mins, almost dried up.
Can be peel off my face! Ouch, its feel like tearing my own skin :X

Many ill-educated theologians deny the immortality of animals, claiming as proof a few isolated scriptures that have been proven to be mistranslated in many English versions of the Bible. But the Bible clearly states that we and animals have the same fate. Indeed, the same Hebrew word used of the souls of Adam and Eve, “nephesh”—the breath of life, was also consistently used of the animals He created. They are repeatedly described by the exact same word. They have the breath of life and will indeed live forever, according to God Himself!

No living thing that God created was intended by Him to die. Nothing that breathes will ever be annihilated. God does not un-create. He loves what He has made, enough to die for it, and He makes that clear in the Bible.

Ecclesiastes 3:14 says, “I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so men will revere him.” And 3:18-20 goes on to say, “As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. Man’s fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; man has no advantage over the animal…All go to the same place;” (NIV translation)

Another indication that God treats humans and animals equally is the covenant between God and Noah in Genesis 9:8-10: “Then God said to Noah, and to his sons with him: ‘I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock, and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth.’”

Revelation tells us there will be horses in heaven, and verse 4:13 says, “Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing....”

We humans who believe in Jesus and accept His death on the cross as payment for our sins are completely cleansed and forgiven, and will join Him in Heaven for eternal life. And we will be restored to our perfected eternal bodies...along with our animals

Many adults don’t know a real lot about pigs!

They think that they are dirty and greedy animals – and they couldn’t be more wrong!
Yes, pigs sometimes wallow in mud because it helps their pale skin from getting sunburnt. If there is no fresh water to bathe in , mud also helps them to cool off. You see, unlike us, pigs don’t perspire, so they have to find other ways to help stay cool on hot day.

Pigs are also remarkably intelligent animals. In fact many experts say that pigs are as smart as dogs! And unlike many other species of animals (including us!) pigs will never overeat. They are definitely not greedy!

Guess which part of a pigs body gets the most use? Their nose! Or snout as we refer to it in pig terms! Pig snouts are very sensitive much like our hands are! Pigs use their snouts to dig and find food. One of their favourite past times is nosing around in the soil trying to find a tasty root to eat.

Just like our mums, mother pigs, called sows, care for and teach their piglets. Mother pigs can have up to 12 piglets, so there are plenty of brothers and sisters to play with. Pigs love to be outdoors, exploring and investigating as they are very inquisitive and curious animals.

In 1995 a magical movie was made called Babe in Australia. The star of the movie was a gorgeous piglet called ‘Babe’ and movie goers around the world fell in love with Babe and her adventures with her barnyard pals and Farmer Hoggett whom she lived with. ‘Babe’ helped adults see pigs differently. With the help of a little movie magic ‘Babe’ could speak and so they were able to understand her and celebrate Babe’s happy times and sympathise with her struggles.

For a time around the world, people thought about pigs differently and saw them for the beautiful creatures that they are.
But memories fade… and ‘Babe’ and her kind has gone back to just being pork, ham and bacon on supermarket shelves, instead of a living, breathing feeling animal that shares our world with us.
Sometimes adults think that we are different to other animals and that they don’t need the same things we do.

So what do we have in common?
Lots! We breathe the same air through our ‘noses’, we all need to eat food and drink water, we all like to shelter from the sun if it is too hot, and the rain and wind when it is cold.
We all like to play with members of our own species, we have families, we all like to be happy and content, we all like to be able to run around and play… and you know what else…?
We all feel pain. We can all break bones, we all bruise if we bump into something, and if we cut ourselves we all bleed.

Sadly, in Australia many thousands of pigs don’t have the opportunity to live outdoors; instead they are kept inside sheds. They are kept in tiny pens where they are hardly able to move and don’t have the opportunity to snout in the ground, explore or feel the sun on their backs.

Mums and kids aren’t allowed to play together. They are kept this way so that they will produce as many piglets as possible for farmers to sell. These animals are then killed to make pork, bacon and ham.

I believe that animals are no different to us, that they deserve to be treated kindly, always, because unlike us, and ‘Babe’ in the movie, they can’t ask for help when they need it. They rely on us to care for them and understand their needs.

Why? Sometimes we forget that animals can suffer just like us. Sometime we forget that when they wake up each day, just like us, they need something to do and look forward to just like us. Sometimes we forget that caring about their needs is more important than making money.

I thought it was very near, in fact it was damn far.
The road name is called "Andrew Road", What the hell is that?!?!
Anyway, alight at the wrong bus stop. So paiseh ;X
Ask one young guy where's Mediacorp, LOL!
He said :"It's at the next bus stop".

Well, today i went to Swensen's to eat (;
Whoa! the bill cost us almost 200 bucks, scary!
Anyway, we ordered 1 beef steak, BBQ chicken, clam chowder, chicken and mushroom spaghetti, Seafood pepper spaghetti, fries & digs, earthquake, chewy sticky chocolate, milkshake.
But the service damn lousy, we had to wait for 1hr then the food be serve. If i didn't ask the waitress where's our food, maybe after 2hr then come... Anyway, the food there was really delicious, YUMMY!

Janet saw this cat in the vicinity. As you can see from the picture, his rectum and part of the intestine is sticking out! A surgery (maybe a few) is definitely needed save this cat. Woah, today i was damn lucky.

Korean Pop Concert Ticket.
I was really shock as i don't think i'm so lucky. I just try my luck and did the question. And i really didn't think that i would be so lucky to win this tickets! Anyway i'm a Korean's FANS so this tickets was my best present for the whole year.

Well, today went out with friend to watch "Sing To The Dawn". You know what?!?! The whole cinema was empty and it was filled with my friends and me only. Was this show really bad? Actually after watching it, it was quite good. My rating for this movie is 4/5. Well, it still worth to watch it, trust me.

Hudson's nephew found dead: police

Police have discovered the body of the missing nephew of "Dreamgirls" star Jennifer Hudson who had not been seen since his grandmother and uncle were found murdered, officials said Monday.

"We can confirm that the body located inside the vehicle was the body of seven-year-old Julian King," Chicago police superintendent Jody Weis told reporters.

"Today a family and community are grieving but we want them to take comfort in knowing Chicago police and detectives will continue to work around the clock to make sure that justice is served."

While Weis said it was too soon to guess at a motive, he said police believe "it wasn't the case of a stranger homicide."

Weis said police have not yet identified a suspect in the case but the boy's stepfather, William Balfour, is considered a "person of interest."

Balfour, who was taken into custody for questioning on Friday, is being held on a parole violation but has not been charged.

Estranged from Hudson's older sister Julia, he has denied involvement in the murders or disappearance, law enforcement sources said.

Police believe Hudson's brother, Jason, 29, was shot through the door of the family home. The shooter then entered the home and kept firing, hitting Hudson's mother Darnell Donerson, 57, as she entered the room.

Hudson's older sister, Julia, discovered the bodies around 3:00 pm Friday but there was no sign of her son.

Hudson's family offered a 100,000 dollar reward for Julian's safe return and posted photos of Julian on her website and MySpace page.

"Please keep praying for our family and that we get Julian King back home safely," the family said in a statement on Hudson's website.

"Jennifer and her family appreciate the enormous amount of love, support and prayers they have received while she and her family try to cope with this tragedy and continue the search for Julian."

At the weekend, Julia Hudson pleaded for the return of her son.

"Give me my baby back. That's all I ask," a tearful Julia Hudson, 31, told reporters Saturday at a Baptist church on the South Side of Chicago.

"I know he's out there. Put him on the side of the street. Just let him go."

She described Julian as an easygoing child who answers to "Juicebox" and "Dr. King" and likes to read and hang out with his grandmother.

Julian was discovered in the back seat of his uncle's sports utility vehicle with fatal gunshot wounds, police said. It was not immediately clear when or where he was killed.

Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson identified the bodies of her mother and brother at the morgue shortly after jetting back to her hometown from Florida late Friday.

Autopsies showed that the pair died from multiple gunshot wounds, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Saturday.

Chicago police issued an Amber Alert, or child abduction bulletin, for King on Friday. On Saturday, authorities called in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to help with the search in case the boy had been taken over state lines.

"We're doing that as a precautionary measure," Weis told CNN. Weis said the slayings and the child's disappearance appeared to be a domestic matter.

Balfour had split up with Julia Hudson and moved out of the home she shared with her mother and brother, friends and neighbors said.

The 27-year-old baker has convictions for attempted murder, vehicular hijacking and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was released from prison in May 2006 and is still on probation.

IF you ask Adam Fulrath who is the love of his life, he will barely blink an eye before responding: Parappa.

Mr. Fulrath, a 37-year-old design director at Time Out New York, keeps five photographs of Parappa, a shorthaired, bicolored, mixed-breed cat, on his desktop. He knows that it might be considered a little weird that a grown man would be so enamored with his kitty, but Mr. Fulrath, who is into video games and comic books and calls himself a “straight, geeky guy,” doesn’t care.
“She’s my primary relationship,” he said.

Mr. Fulrath is one of a growing number of single — and yes, heterosexual — men who seem to be coming out of the cat closet and unabashedly embracing their feline side. To that end, they are posting photographs and videos of their little buddies on YouTube and on Web sites like menandcats.com, and Twittering about them to anyone who will listen.

Indeed, it seems that man’s best friend is no longer a golden retriever, but a cuddly cat named Fluffy. This movement, such as it is, is in direct contrast to the most notable in the recent spate of reports about the relationship between a man and a cat, which were far darker; they focused on a young actor who was recently on trial in New York City for killing his girlfriend’s cat — he said it attacked him — only to have a jury decide after several days that it could not reach a verdict.

If it had been a little less violent, that case might have been more in line with what the world seems to expect of men and cats.

The image of the crazy spinster cat lady persists, and plenty of people do wonder about a guy with a cat. As a writer on adventuresofacitygirl.blogspot.com put it: “Single men and cats are like a burger and broccoli. Separately they are okay, but together it just seems off.”
But those who see a growing link between men and cats see that attitude (not to mention the cat slaying) as old-fashioned.

Clea Simon, who wrote “The Feline Mystique: On the Mysterious Connection Between Women and Cats,” said: “I do think it has become more acceptable for men to own cats — partly for practical reasons, like the growing realization that they’re better city pets, and partly the whole acceptance of our cross-gender traits that men crave intimacy, too.”

Stacy Mantle, the founder of Petsweekly.com, a magazine for pet lovers, said that men are becoming more “cat literate” because they themselves are evolving.

“It’s the unevolved members of the species who tend toward abuse of cats — and oftentimes, women and children,” said Ms. Mantle, who owns 18 cats.

Although there are no hard (or soft) statistics (it is rare to find an owner, man or woman, walking a cat in public), it seems that single, heterosexual male cat owners are on the rise. Over the last few years Sandra DeFeo, an executive director at the Humane Society of New York, said she had seen an increase in the number of single, straight men who are adopting cats.

Carole Wilbourn, a cat therapist (yes, really) in Manhattan, said that the number of her single, straight male clients has risen about 25 percent over the last five years.

When the Web site PetPlace.com asked its readers, “Do Real Men Own Cats?” almost 84 percent of respondents said “yes.” “Only intelligent, aware, caring men love cats,” one reader said. And in a 2005 survey by Cats Protection, an animal welfare agency in the United Kingdom, the majority of the 790 people who responded said it was cool for a guy to own cats.

This line of thinking does not surprise cat lovers, many of whom believe that only pillars of virility and masculinity would dare to own one. They are quick to point out other well-known macho cat owners: Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain, Victor Hugo and Marlon Brando, who reportedly found a stray cat on the set of “The Godfather” and incorporated it into a scene.
John Scalzi, 39, an author in Bradford, Ohio, has been a cat guy his entire life. In September 2006, he posted a picture of a piece of bacon taped to his cat, Ghlaghghee (pronounced Fluffy — an ode to George Bernard Shaw), on his Web site www.scalzi.com/whatever. Thousands of viewers apparently found this hilarious.

Mr. Scalzi, who is now married and has a daughter, blames Hollywood for the continual bad rap that has befallen the male cat owner. Originally, he said, only strong men like Don Corleone, or the villains in a James Bond film, had cats.

“But then in the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties, Hollywood decided that we need to have the token gay man as the witty sidekick friend of the main female protagonist,” he said. “ ‘What kind of signature thing can we give him to convey that he is not an entirely masculine being? I know! We’ll give him a big fluffy cat!’ ”

In fact, Mr. Scalzi thinks that dogs are for the weaker of spirit, since the dog is, in effect, “your wingman.”

“If you’re feeling insecure about your space in the world, you get a dog because he will always back you up,” he said. “He’s the insecure man’s best friend.”

A man with a cat, on the other hand, “is secure with himself,” he said. “He’s sharing his space with a predator.”

Many women agree that guys with cats are extra special.

“They make the best boyfriends because they’re totally cool with staying home and watching a movie,” said Elizabeth Daza, 28, a video producer in Manhattan, who dated a cat-owning man for eight years. “Straight men with cats seem to be really secure and stable. They don’t need to be running around the park and proving their masculinity like the dog guys.”

On a practical level, cats are easier, male owners say — especially if they (the men) travel a lot. They can leave the cat alone for days on end, and the cat will survive.

“I would feel guilty if I had a dog and was out of the country for three weeks,” said Mark Fletcher, 38, an entrepreneur in Redwood City, Calif. who has two cats, Einstein and Babe (as in Ruth).

What’s more, cats are relatively low maintenance.

“A dog is a lot of work,” said Nader Ali-Hassan, 29, an account executive with a digital marketing firm in Cleveland.

Although he is married, he has had cats his entire life, and even has a picture of Ringo, a longtime feline companion, in his office.

“Maybe it’s not the most masculine thing in the world, but I’m comfortable enough in my own manhood,” he said. “The cat’s nice. I come home after a long day of work, it sits in my lap, I pet it, and then it goes about its business.”

SOME guys are even using their cats as vehicles to celebrity, like Paul Klusman, 39, a Wichita, Kan., engineer who catapulted to Internet fame after posting “An Engineer’s Guide to Cats” on YouTube in April.

The film, which features his three cats, Oscar, Ginger and Zoey, garnered about 3 million views. Mr. Klusman said he received about 300 marriage proposals from “lonely cat ladies from all over the world,” in addition to more risqué propositions.

“Any single, straight man who has the slightest bit of insecurity about his own sexuality will probably find it difficult to admit to owning or even appreciating cats” he said, echoing Mr. Scalzi’s sentiments.

Of course, it can become tricky, like when the cat gets in the way of a relationship.

The Cats Protection study found that single male cat owners were more likely than their female counterparts to have made, or consider making, a sacrifice for their cat — including giving up a holiday or going into debt for their cat if necessary.

Single men were also almost as likely as single women to break a friendship rather than lose their cat, and would consider choosing their cat over their partner.

This happened to Mr. Fulrath, who dated a woman who was allergic to cats.

“I thought, ‘This is never going to work,’ ” he recalled. “My cat takes priority over the new relationship. Realistically, unless there’s something absolutely amazing about her, he wins.”

In Yorkshire, fisherman's wives kept black cats while their husbands went away to sea. They believed that the black cats would prevent danger from occurring to their husbands. These black cats were considered so valuable that they were often stolen.

In Scotland, a strange black cat on your porch is a sign of upcoming prosperity.

In Britain and Ireland, if a black cat crosses your path it is considered good luck.

In England, it was believed that if a black cat lived in the house, the young lass would have plenty of suitors.

Lastly, one tale of demise that surely demonstrates a black cat’s luck is that of Charles I of England (1600-1649). Folklore says he had a black cat, which he carried with him everywhere he went, claiming that the cat was his luck. The day after the cat died from an illness, the king was arrested and later beheaded.

Feisty Pema seeks a good home LIFE had dealt her a harsh set of cards. Yet, somehow, she managed to triumph against the odds. Born on the streets, she had no idea who her parents were. She had no name and lived in constant uncertainty, wondering where her next meal would come from. Each time it rained, ditches and holes turned into useful shelters. By a stroke of luck, she found refuge in a school. But she was turned out and the expectant mother had to fend for herself once more.

Then, a decision was made to abort her three babies. All these could have crippled the toughest individual, but not her. She survived the surgery and was given the name "Pema" by a kind-hearted samaritan, 56-year-old Helga Gamp. Now, Pema the stray cat is looking forward to a new start - and a new owner.

With World Animal Day last Saturday, it is startling to know that Pema is one of 60,000 stray cats roaming Singapore's alleys and housing estates. Last year, the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) impounded 3,777 felines. But Pema escaped this fate when Ms Gamp chanced upon her last month.

The part-time catsitter told my paper: "I was cycling past Yishun MRT Station when some students asked if I would adopt her. It seems she had been staying in their school for a while." The principal said his hands were tied: "The school doesn't have the resources to look after cats that wander in." Pema is probably unaware of the running debate over stray cats being a nuisance. Neither does she realise there are two camps: Those who want to cull her and those in favour of sterilising her kind to control the feline population.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is firmly in favour of sterilisation. Executive officer Deirdre Moss said: "More sterilised cats translates into fewer births and, hopefully, fewer strays." Hence, it gives out sterilisation vouchers to volunteers like Ms Gamp, who took Pema for the surgery and is housing her for the time being. Said Ms Moss: "Sterilised cats are healthy and deserve a shot at life." Luckily for Pema and her mates, there are organisations like SPCA and the Cat Welfare Society that work with caregivers islandwide to trap, neuter, return and manage cats in residential areas.

The calico cat with orange, brown and black markings now sports a tipped left ear - a sign that she has been sterilised. Head of AVA's Centre for Animal Welfare and Control, Mr Madhavan Kannan, said in an e-mail: "It would be good if those who feed stray cats could find homes for them." That's what Ms Gamp is trying to do, and Pema is probably hoping for the same, too.

Today, woke up as usual.
Had my breakfasts and after that had my piano lesson.
After piano lesson, i went out to let my rabbit for an 30mins run.
Which was good for health.
Then, i received an message from Jing Ting:

Never mind, it's was fate for her death.
Anyway, I'll be getting three Syrians Hamster baby for her.

I really had a fun day today ,
I was feeling great & excited .
Shuyi's family & my family went to malaysia to put FIREWORKS .
Fireworks were SUPER DUPER LOUD & NOISY ,
but it's still worth it after all .

ahhhh , must study hard for my test uhh .
failed my maths badly , but its okay cause i had tried my very best .
the paper was really very dificult . my whole class failed the paper . OMG
my maths teacher miss lim still say that "that is only the basic for this chapter" .
i think she don't know our school standard , set the question paper till so dificult .
Wish to retest my maths . aww
if got retest , i must work more even harder then before .

studying for my literature, chinese & history now .
maybe need tostudy till 4 am, oh my gosh.
